To support the utility of biotin in healthy individuals for its claimed benefits on healthy hair and nail growth.

Findings

D. P. Patel reviewed the effect of Biotin in 18 patients suffering from poor hair growth using PubMed search and randomized clinical trials. The effect of Biotin supplementation on hair health is noticeable. According to the report, use of biotin as a hair supplement triggers hair growth, strengthens follicles, reduces hair fall and strengthens hair.

FINDINGS

In a case study, ‘Skin manifestations of biotin deficiency’ by Mock DM, it was found that Biotin supplementation has visible and invisible effects on skin health. It not only increases skin glow, but also reduces rashes, protects skin from fungal infections, keeps it moisturized and boosts metabolism. Biotin is like a magic formula that acts as a preventive, remedial, nourishing and vitalizing skin supplement.

To demonstrate the role of biotin
in effecting nail plate thickness.

Findings

A case study done in Switzerland on 44 patients by Hochman LG, Scher RK, and Meyerson MS, ‘Brittle Nails: Response to Daily Biotin Supplementation’ demonstrated a 25 percent increase in nail plate thickness in patients with brittle nails over a six-month period. Almost all patients showed clinical improvement, suggesting that use of Biotin triggers nail growth, thickens nail plates, makes nails stronger and reduces nail splitting.
